If the bar won't move, it means either

a: Your screen / gfx card is incapable of displaying a resolution other than its current settings, or

b: You don't have drivers installed for the graphics card, and your system is in simple VGA mode. You need to download and install the appropriate driver for your system's graphics card. Check the manufacturer's website.

Screen resolution changes at start up?

It's fine until I run a program that changes the screen resolution like a game, it changes back to normal when I exit the game, it's just at the next start up it changes to the resolution the game was in. Pretty sure I have the latest drivers. It's been doing this from the first day I got this computer. Any ideas how to fix it?Screen resolution changes at start up?
Update DirectX

Type msconfig in run

Click the BOOT.INI tab

Make sure BASEVIDEO is unchecked

If it happens with one particular game, check for a game patch at the game support websiteScreen resolution changes at start up?
uninstall the display driver and reinstall the latest ones. Then in the control panel of your gfx card find set resolution and set it to the max for your monitor.

Hope that'll help.

Sounds like your display adapter got screwed up. Try reinstalling it or simply remove it from your device manager and restart your computer. It should reinstall itself.

How do I set my screen resolution to an unavailable resolution?

This morning, I logged onto my computer, and began to use it. A message appeared saying I had new style settings I hit cancel. However, it changed my screen resolution from 1280x800 to 1224x768. I tried to change the resolution back to 1280x800, however it's not available in the Display Settings menu. Is there some other method to change the screen resolution? How do I set my screen resolution to an unavailable resolution?
that means you have not got the latest drivers for the graphics card/chip windows is using a generic driver (temporary driver) you need to go to the manufactures customer website and down load the latest drivers not only for the graphics but for everything elseHow do I set my screen resolution to an unavailable resolution?
first of all,i hope your monitor supports highest resolutions like 1280x800,1224x768 well.it is easy to go back to 1280x800.

1)first;right click on properties then go to settings tab

2)check the 1280x800 there,if it is not there then,

    3) click advanced tab on settings

    4)click adapter tab

5)click list of display models tab and select 1280x800x32bit 75Hz and press ok, and apply.

then you will have the 1280x800 resolution.

but remember; you said you didn't see the 1200X800 on settings menu,

most of montiors show only best handling resolutions on settings menu

so I'm quite sure your monitor handle the 1200X800.

If not it can damage your monitor.so becareful.:)

Some monitors can only be set to a certain range of resolutions. If you cannot make it smaller than it currently is then you are probably screwed.
if you have a ati graphics card i know you can use the catalyst control center. nvidia has some sort of software too.

I think you need to install your graphics card drivers. Thats why the resolution bar cant move ;)
Use Start %26gt; Setting %26gt; Add Hardware

Re-install the graphic card (device), then try to change the screen resolution again. The problem may relate to your graphic card driver. The re-installation will reload the driver.
Either your graphics card burned out,

    Go to your computers manufacturer's

website and download the drivers. If that

doesn't work, then it's time to get a new

every monitor size has a native resolution like

15 inch LCD has 1024x768 which is the best resolution for a LCD monitor of this size. know your monitor's size and the native resolution and then keep that resolution. normally if you have all your graphics adapters at the right place then its done automatically.

xp- right click on an empty space on desktop and then click settings and then change it.

in vista right click on desltop and then customize and then settings and then change itHow to change the screen resolution according to the monitor size?
If you update your driver for the graphics adapter, the driver will automatically choose the largest compatible size. If not, you can check display properties.

In XP: Right-Click a blank portion of the desktop, and go to properties.

In Vista: You need to go to the control panel, and click/double click the control panel named to display.

After that, go to the advanced tab and choose your resolution. Some resolutions may force a lower color depth (IE: 16-bit) so be wary.
Simply right-click on your desktop, Properties-Settings and adjust your screen resolution. You can even choose to hide modes that your monitor does not display so it will become easy for you. Right Click-Properties-Settings-Advanced-Monit?and check the box that says Hide Modes that my Monitor cannot display. and also you can keep your screen refresh rate maximized so that you can get the best viewing quality. http://www.gamerzplan8.blogspot.com

Go to device managers and find your video card, then go the their website and download it. If you have a Dell, you can go to their site and they will have the drivers for your computer. It is possible to start in safe mode with some operating systems and you can adjust from there. Alternatively, go to device manager and delete the video card driver. Either scan for new hardware or restart the computer and hopefully Windows will automatically install the driver again and set the display to it's optimum resolution.

Good luckI accidentally reduced my screen resolution and now the 'Display' window is too big and I can't change it back
    Hi

just select the correct resolution then press enter assuming that the active button is OK.

if this doesn't work just press tab to go t the next button then press enter.

keep doing this till you press the OK or apply button by just through pressing ENTER as it is the same as clicking the mouse.

hi david, yes its hard to change the resolution back to its original setting when the display is too large, however try using the display icon in your taskbar

both nvidia and ati use task bar icons as quick access to there control functions, just right click the specific icon and select resolution and then choose either 800x600 or 1024x768,these are the best resolutions to use for average monitors

alternatively you can restart your p.c and gently tap f8 to enter safe mode, using safe mode no drivers are installed and you should be able to reset your original resolution in there

however if your display drivers were correctly installed just restart the p.c as per normal, when windows starts up it will recognize that the display is too low and issue you a message that the display is too low and do you want to change it to the default resolution(1024x768 for 17'; displays and 1280x1024 for 19'; displays),just choose yes and the display will return back to its correct setting

    any problems let me know

    good luck david!

2 possible answers. The first and simple one it sounds like you've already tried.

Go to your desktop, right click and choose display settings. Click on the settings tab on the right and change the screen resolution slider.

However it sounds like you have already tried that. Failing that you need to install drivers for your graphics card. Go to the card manufacturers site and download the drivers and you should be back in business.
Hold down ctrl button and roll the roller on your mouse

How to change the screen resolution to 32 bit?

Well i already know how to do it where to find it and so on but Its just that i can't find it 32 bit i only see (high)24 bit and (medium)16 bit so is there a way to download it or something because i really need it to use this program that i download

btw i have windows xpHow to change the screen resolution to 32 bit?
Updating the driver for the graphics may change the available options.

It's a pretty poor program if it can't work with 24 bit screen colour depth, as generally, 32 bit is purely to get word orientated memory addressing in the graphics card memory, actually using only 24 bits but filling a 32 bit memory word to avoid split memory accesses.

Lowering the resolution may be an option, though, the only common resoultion that may have an issue is 1280 x 1024, which would allow 24 bit in 4MB graphics memory, but would not allow 32 bit.

If the graphics are onboard, then allocating extra graphics memory in BIOS may releive that issue.

If nothing else works, you may have to consider a new graphics card. 24 bit does tend to be the mark of older cards without memory to waste on a 25% overhead. How to change the screen resolution to 32 bit?
Well i don't think their is a solution to this problem. If your computer does not have the capability to have 32 bit resolution it may have to do with graphics cards. I recommend getting a newer computer.

(Try these settings: Screen resolution 1024 x 768. Then see if you have 32 bit option [Probably wont work but its worth a shot.])
It's possible that your screen doesn't support 32 bit.
Only know that my windows xp gives 16 and 32bit as choices

Why does my screen resolution change every time I turn on my computer?

your graphics card is all farked up. that's one way you know it's on the fritz, you should get a new one, or if it's an onboard one (meaning shoddily crafted) then get a offboard card, and that will make a big difference. You need to open internet explorer and do a update. Maybe that will get you the video driver you seem to be missing. If that does not work you need to find out what video card you have and goto the company's web site and download the newest version you are using. If you cannot find one your video card may not be support. (search the web there may just be one)

Then my computer crashed because of that. I start up my computer, and open it to find that im running 1024 by 768 for resolution! I have been running 1600 by 1800 (i think thats what it is) but then i open up the thing to change resolution and i cant go any higher. i have done google searches, yaho searches, looked through trouble shooting on my computer but i cant find anything! So I've come to you guys. Please help. (by the way im running 2 Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT video cards)How to change screen resolution.
If you can not increase the resolution even outside of VSoH, your graphics driver may have been messed up. Try reinstalling or updating graphics driver. BUT before you do that, try booting to SAFE mode then scan for virus. Something might have slipped through when you got the Message.

    How to change screen resolution?

I recently bought a new LG w2361V monitor. It's a 23'; widescreen. However, I cannot change my old screen resolution 1440X900 to the new optimal resolution 1920X1080. I tried to install the drivers for both the PnP and the graphics card but that didnt work. Can anyone help me out?

Everytime I try to change resolution, it goes back to 1440X900. ThanksHow to change screen resolution?
The two problems that I see would be

    1. Perhaps your video card does not support that resolution. If you purchased it in the last few years it should be fine, but if it is an older one, I'd check on the supported resolutions.

    2. Try installing the Monitor drivers. I work on computers for a living, and I rarely install the monitor drivers, but on rare cases where there is something wrong with the resolution and it is not an option or will not go high enough, sometimes installed the monitor driver can help. You should have gotten a CD with the monitor if not check out LG's website.

Right click in your desktop and you can see the icon for ';personalize';.
yeah you right click on your desktop screen and scroll down to properties. you aren't mad dumb though. geeez people are rough.
hi kirk, it would have been easier to explain what windows that you have like for instance window xp hit start%26gt;settings%26gt;control panel then hit display icon and then hit the advance tab and there is where you change your resolutions but like for vista is even easier right click a bare placeon your desktop and hit propeties right here is where you can see resolutions settings along with changine the screen pictures and placeing your computer to the right settings. but now for your problem of not being able to see reboot when you see your windows logo start tapping f8 this is a safe screen mode scrol down to last good configuration (advance) and apply this will bring you back to your settings before you had a problem. good luck hope i was helpful to you
The cause of your problem is that your video card has lower version that cannot support the screen resolution that you chose or if your video card has higher version the driver is not install. So to see again your screen first turn off your computer unit and then refresh your video card and memory by removing them. Then return them in their respected places. Now turn on your unit and you will see your screen again. Try not to select resolution setting that cannot be supported by your computer system.

Update or reinstall the drivers for your video card. The resolutions are handled by the card. Sounds like you dont have any drivers for your video card. See if it shows VGA under display adapters in your device manager. If it does you need drivers before you can adjust your resolution. When I go to change the screen resolution of my desktop, nothing changes. What's wrong?
Make sure your clicking apply or ok.
it probably isnt the monitor but the video card - you might either need a new video card or re-install the current video card driver. go to the site your video card came from like dell, ibm, or wherever and download the driver, or go to driverguide.com and download it from there.

How do I change my screen resolution back to regular after playing a free trial game on my computer?

it's all blurry and huge!!! Also the windows that open everything up are bluish grey. A similar question was asked earlier but got lame results. PLEASE HELP ME. D:

Just going to the desktop settings and trying to change it back to 1280x1024 doesn't help at all, it just stays on what appears to be 800x600 even after I exited out of the game.

Thanks! :DHow do I change my screen resolution back to regular after playing a free trial game on my computer?
Sometimes crudely programmed games will do this, they change your PC's resolution when entering the game but fail to change it back to what it originally was when exiting out. What you were doing before is exactly right, you need to make sure your changing that resolution back to what it was then pressing ';apply'; not ';ok';. It should immediately switch to that resolution, and it asks if you can see your screen, then you click ok. Again, just right click on your desktop, properties, settings, then adjust your resolution and click apply. Good luck. How do I change my screen resolution back to regular after playing a free trial game on my computer?
    I would uninstall the game.

If you are using Windows XP, follow along. Go to start, go to the control panel, find add/remove programs, click there. Find the game in the list that appears. Click on the program and then click on remove.

If you are using Vista, there is no add/remove programs on the list in the control panel. Find your way to Program and Features. Then click on the name of the game and then click on uninstall (the box at the top of the screen).

Apparently, the game changed the resolution for you and assumes you want to leave it that way. I never download or play any trial programs for that very reason. You can run into trouble that way.; they have a tendency to take over your computer and you have no way of knowing if there is spy ware or a virus associated with it.

    Jan
If changing your desktop settings doesnt help then try restarting your pc. If it does the same thing every time you play it, then the game is the problem and is likely not entirely compatible with your graphics card. You may have to wait for the developers to update the game, or you could try updating your graphics drivers to see if the problem still persists
the first you shouldn't reset for your trial games anyway.start control panel ,, then click personization,, the click on display setting and set it .. the colors set to highest would be 32 bit and your 1280X 1024 pixels.if you have all infro. right. You need say what your OS is and your screen size is. If you got 19 x 16 your pixels would be 1440 X900
    Hello,

Right-click the desktop %26gt; Personalise %26gt; Display Settings and then set your resolution back to what it was.

You could choose 800 by 600 then to make it look bigger. Your video card is the device that gives you more screen resolution choices, a 32 mb video gives only the maximum until about 1024 by 900+ screen resolution.

You can check the features of your video card thru clicking start -%26gt; run -%26gt; type dxdiag and hit ENTER. Go to your display tab and see how many mb is your video card. You don't need to touch the direct 3d, direct draw below. ;)How can i change my screen resolution?

right click on desktop ( wallpaper in windows)

    then klik properties

    klik setting..

    its there
try right click on your desktop, this should give you a pop up menu, have a look.
The two ways I know is 1.Go to your control panel then click Dislplay, and then one of the tabs has the screen resolution properties. or 2. You can change the resolution with some options on your monitor itself.
Your monitor supports all kinds of resolutions but your video card does not. Access the card manufacturer's site and see if there is an upgrade to the card's driver. Upgrade your video card.
I am a computer specialist. I deal with screen resolution problems often. To my knowledge there is no choice in between those two points. I've looked on several computers and saw no other choice that was in between. If 1024/768 is too small for your family, then, stay on 800/600. No sense on straining everyone's eyes.
The two things that can limit youre ability to choose a higher resolution are the monitor and the video card. A few steps you can take. One, Install a new driver for the video card. Two, If none exist replace the video card with a newer version. Even a 30$ cheap video card can accomplish this. Three, Some monitors dont have the ability to exceed certain resolutions. Replacing the monitor with a newer one will work.
This answer applies to any version of Microsoft Windows. Go to your Desktop (that is the starting screen). Find a blank area, place your cursor in it and right click. A menu will pop up. Select ';Properties'; in the menu. Click on Properties (left click). A new screen will appear with various tabs on top. Select and click on tab that is called ';Settings';. you will now get a screen where you can set colors (set at highest) and you will see a slider. Hold down left mouse button and drag the slider to the resolution you wish to use. Click ';Apply'; and then ';OK';. You very likely will lhave to restart your PC so as to enable the new resolution setting.
try to go to microsoft web site and get some updates.

You will need to add a graphics card to your configuration.

Presently , your monitor must be connected to the onboard ( on the motheboard) graphics controller ) which supports on these 2 resolutions.
hi buddy to tell u the screen resoutions can only be set at speficied resolutions and there is no other resolution setting between 800*600 and 1024*768.

these setting are applied worldwide as standards and there also u can see that any resolution table is having no option. all options are after that or before that. its better not to strain eyes and work at 800*600 resolution if u use the pc with others. or u may set to 1024-768 when u are using it

Right now, I can only log into guest account on this computer (Dell Dimension B110, desktop)

Nobody knows the administrator password. When I log into guest account, the internet doesn't work, it's like it's disabled.

you cannot change the screen resolution in safe mode, when logging into safe mode log into the admin account, then go to user accounts in the control panel and there you can change the password in the main user account by clicking on that account and select change password, then enter a simple password such as abcd and save it, then restart the pc and you will be able to log into the main user account with the new password

You can also edit the X11 Config file. I'm not familiar with that distro, but it is usually called xorg.conf in never versions. It could be in /etc/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Regardless, if you can't change the resolution beyond 640 x 480, there might be some video card compatibility issues. Do you have a new or highend video card? fix your problem by doing the following

yahoo now uses popups to enter rooms,DO NOT turn off popup blocker,no need. click on popup blocker click on always allow.add yahoo.com to list. then the 1st thing you do when you enter lounge is check play small window in option box. if you don't and enter room you get grey screen,if you just close it you are now in a room and if you try going elsewere you will get ';error logging in '; in every lounge..if this happens click on lounge tab and check small window box then click refresh if that doesn't work, reboot and follow above info.once in small room you can expand it,,you only see top half of cards but you can play.and see chat area so you can talk to other players.yahoo is now running sales ads in rooms. email them and complain i did, if everyone does this maybe they will stop it. the site to complain is on lounge select page the HELP button at top, feedback!

alright, so my brother totally crashed the computer but we re-installed windows xp home edition. we cant change the resolution to anything but 640 by 480. i went onto troubleshoot and it said to go under settings%26gt;%26gt;advanced, moniter%26gt;%26gt;properties but the properties button will not highlight for me to click on it!

--ive read other posts on other websites about this, and they said i can download a new setup disc or something from a website ? my brother did this once, but he ';forgot how'; please tell me how to download this for FREE. thank you so much !Cant change screen resolution?
After installing Win XP, you need to install the drivers (usually the chipset, graphics and LAN drivers). Better install the basic drivers. They are typically on the drivers CD that came w/ computer. If CD is gone, download the drivers from the Support Website of PC maker. Just open the downloaded driver and it should install automatically.

How do I stop the ';change your screen resolution'; blue box from poping up?

My son plays certain games, such as World of Warcraft, and when the games start they , I'm guessing, change the screen resolution. The little blue box keeps popping up every few min. asking me to change the screen res., it also says to disable this message press 2, which I've done over and over. The message doesn't stop. Does anyone know how to stop this message?? I am using windows XP Professional the 2002 version. How do I stop the ';change your screen resolution'; blue box from poping up?
This message is your LCD monitor. Read the manual that came with your Monitor. Your choices are to set all programs to the default resolution and refresh rate for the LCD Monitor, ( most games have a options menu for this within the game) or use the Monitor menu to turn the pop up box off Completely. ( Press Button 2 is referring to button 2 on the Monitor , not your keyboard)

This info should all be in the manual that came with the Monitor. The default resolution and refresh rate will be the maximum that your LCD Monitor supports. Check the LCD user manual before changing the resolution and refresh rate. changing the settings to a resolution and refresh rate higher than your monitor supports can damage the Monitor. How do I stop the ';change your screen resolution'; blue box from poping up?

it sounds like when they swapped the motherboard, they swapped it to a different model, with a different integrated video card. So your computer is trying to use the old video card driver for the new video card.

If they gave you a CD with drivers for the new motherboard, you can run that and install the new drivers. Else if you find out the new model of the video card, you can download the driver

That implies that either your monitor, video board or drivers can't support anything but 800 x 600. Have you recently done a reinstall of the operating system? If so, the monitor may be running with general-purpose, one-size-fits-all drivers. Go to the video board manufacturer's site and see if there are any drivers for your board.

I have had the screen at the high level before so can anyone let me know how to get the high resolution back? After reinstalling XP it wont let me change my screen resolution.?
You will need to reinstall the drivers for your graphics card.

If this is a home built system, you should look for the installation CD that came with your video card.

If you have a prebuilt system (Dell, Compaq, etc) the drivers are usually located on one of the CDs that came with the computer.

If you don't have either of these, then you can look for your video card and download drivers from the web.

    To do this:

    1) Right Click on My Computer

    2) Click on the Hardware tab

    3) Click on Device Manager

    4) Click the + next to Display adapters

This should have the name of the Video Card. Do a search with this name + drivers. After reinstalling XP it wont let me change my screen resolution.?

You didn't install your video card drivers (and probably a bunch of other drivers). It's a very common novice mistake when installing an OS.I have recently re-installed windows XP to my computer and I am wondering how to change the screen resolution?
try to install the Video Card driver ( the software/ CD that came with your video card ) of your computer. If you have a built in video card ( your video card is already part of your motherboard ), try to install your motherboard drivers.
Go to the start screen, right click any blank spot, click properties, click settings tab and adjust the resolution.

    Hope this helps
You likely need to download and reinstall the correct drivers for your video card; it sounds like Windows doesn't have a driver for your card and so defaulted to the most basic one it had. Try the manufacturer's website.
    update your video drivers
right click a blank area on you're desktop, select properties, then in the window that pops up select settings there you can adjust resolution,

Maybe you dont have your graphics driver installed. First install it from the motherboard/graphics driver CD and then try adjusting the resolutionHow do you change the screen resolution of your computer?
by a better graphics card that supports the Resolution you want

also you may need a new monitor to display the Resolution properly

Also: - you shouldnt really need the cd if you have xp or vista just plug the camera in and the plug and play will come up and install. it might ask you to point it to wherre the drivers are, just pop the cd in the drive and point it towards the cd
If your maxed out then that is all your computer can handle unless you purchase a higher video graphics card. It could be that you are using what is known as intergrated video memory which in my opinion is okay because it's free but you are probally going to need an upgrade. Nothing to fancy just something around $50 or so will do.

Check out http://www.newegg.com to see the prices on those.

also it will help to know what type of computer you have to ensure you get the correct connection type..if your PC is older then you probally have a PCI slot so you will want to purchase a PCI video graphics card but if your PC is newer then your computer might be able to handle a slightly different interface (plug in type). The types are

    1) PCI

    2) PCI Express

    3) PCI Express x16

If unsure what type you have then you can check that type by click on the start button and right click on my computer %26gt; properties %26gt; hard ware %26gt; device manager %26gt; System Devices %26gt; and down that list somewhere you will see the Intel list of slot types you have. You want to get a PCI Express x16 if you have it but any will do.

You need to know what kind of card you have. ATi or Nvidia. If you know that, then browse to the corresponding company's website, download the drivers and install.

No you should not have to do a system restore, and I am not sure it would help in this case.

If you have not done so do a complete hardboot (turn everything off), and then try the display settings again.

Check the device manager and see if the de-installed monitor is still there, if so delete it.

If your adapter came with a utility try using it. Make sure your video card and if possible drivers are current. If windows update doesn't update them, check the manufacturers web site directly.

It should say 1280 by 800 pixels.

    Press ok.

Now your screen should be normal size.

How to change screen resolution on gateway computer?

i have a gateway computer my grandfather just gave me that was his. i recovered the computer to factoy settings. i however have a dell flat screen monitor on it (obviously not the original monitor from the computer) after i did the recovery the screen is on a low resolution (the 640 one). and everything on the screen is very large (icons, tool bar, start bar, menu etc) i tried changing the resoultion thinking that it was the problem but it is locked on the 640 and i try changing it and it wont let me. could it be because i have a different monitor on it or is there something else i could do. i also tried changing the resolution directly from the monitor but i couldnt find anything to change it. does anyone have any idea what to do or what could be the problem? How to change screen resolution on gateway computer?
You need to find the driver for the monitor and install it. Right now it is most likely using the default monitor settings. That should resolve the issue.

well the guy on top of me that thinks he has a master in networking is pretty sad if that's his solution to the problem

but you should check your computer what model it is. if it is a hp or dell just google your computer model ex: optiplex 2350 or something like that and open up the link that takes you to a support website for your computer

in there go to downloads and go to display driver or display or whatever it is. there should be an auto-extract or an easy way to download a driver

when its done it either takes care of it on its own once you run it or you;re gunna have to extract it to a folder and right click your computer go to properties, hardware, device manager, display adapters and right click on the one that should have a yellow sign on it

update driver and say to install manually put the file that the driver is in and press next it should take care of it on its own

let mek now what kind your computer is and i could give you better and more precise adviceCan't change screen resolution, help?
There's no other way. Try installing some software.
Restart your PC. If the mouse moves after that, right-click anywhere on your desktop that is blank, Click on Properties, Click on the settings tab, You can adjust your resolution in there. If your mouse doesn't work at all anymore, you may have to reformat your hard drive.
try figuring out what video card is in your computer (the card that the monitor connects to). Usually, they will have it stamped somewhere, or a sticker will have the brand/model on it. After you find that, do a google search for ';videocardnamehere driver';, videocardnamehere obviously being your video card. Install the driver, restart your PC, and try changing your resolution again.

How to change screen resolution on netbook?

I have a Dell Inspiron 10 mini, with Windows XP running.

How do you change (or, in this case, add and change) the screen resolution? My standard is 1024 by 600, but I need my resolution to be 1024 by 768 to run RPG Maker XP. I've done it before, and the resolution was bigger than the screen so there was screen scrolling. I found out how to do it in the Windows help thing, but now since I had to get a new hard drive, I have to do it again. But I don't remember what I searched or how I did it, because it was more complex than the standard 'how to change screen resolution' question they have in the help manager.

So, yeah, how do you set it up so you can add the 1024 by 768 resolution option in the graphics properties? Because I had to put that res in manually since the largest it went was 1024 by 600, but now I can't remember......and I know it's possible since I've done it before..How to change screen resolution on netbook?
Go to the desktop, right click, properties. Then you want to go to the end tab which is settings, and the screen resolution is the slider bar.

    Good luck.

Whenever I change the screen resolution in games too much, the game becomes unplayable. How do I changeit back?

Ok, so I often change the screen resolution on computer games higher to get a better picture quality. However, if I change it too high, the game cannot display anything and the screen is pitch black. How can I change it back if I can't see anything? I know some games have a 10 second reset option, but the games I've had trouble with don't (at least I don't think so). How can I change it back without groping around in the dark through the menu hoping to hit the screen resolution option?Whenever I change the screen resolution in games too much, the game becomes unplayable. How do I changeit back?

Monitor wont allow me to change screen resolution through controlpanel?

Someone said GPU drivers well I am computer illiterate could someone tell me where the driver files are located, what the drivers do and how to get new ones for free? ThanksMonitor wont allow me to change screen resolution through controlpanel?
You probably have to update the drivers for your video adapter. So maybe you have to get these from your manufacturer's website. Let's say that you have an HP, then visit www.hp.com and look for the Download or Driver section. That should show you a place where you can type in your model number, like Pavilion 510N. From there, you should be able to find your video drivers.

If you have no idea, maybe you should seek a visit from a PRO. You can bring your computer (leave monitor, keyboard and mouse at home) to a place like Staples, who has the Easy Tech services.

Good luck and Happy Computing!Monitor wont allow me to change screen resolution through controlpanel?
you need to find out who made the video card.

and download and install the specific drivers.

you are probably using default windows drivers.

    download everest free edition

this will tell you which card you are using

How do I change the screen resolution in Ubuntu on the PS3?

I'm running Intrepid Ibex on a PS3, but unfortunately the screen resolution is so lousy (maybe 540x300 at best) that the screen is enormously compacted. I like Ubuntu, but not like this. I have an HDTV that supports 1080i, I think, but it's connected to the PS3 via RCA composite cables, the TV doesn't have an HDMI slot. How do I change the screen resolution? How do I change the screen resolution in Ubuntu on the PS3?
Composite is 480i, so the best effective resolution you would get with that would be 640x480, and it may not be very sharp. Component (3 video cables and 2 audio cables) is capable of higher resolutions, but I have never done that in Ubuntu (my TVs tend to overscan component). Best would be HDMI (which should include sound) or HDMI to DVI cable (sound would be separate), depending upon what input your HDTV has.

I do not have a PS3, so I don't know if D-Terminal means it has VGA or something else. If it does have VGA that should also work, but may require some configuration or adjustment, because VGA is not as automatic as HDMI or DVI.
