Measuring screen resolution?

My monitor resolution is set as 1280x800. Is it possible that different size monitor can have same resolution ? If yes, then will it make the image less clear for the bigger screen ? How do I know, what resolution shall I keep in order to see image properly ?

When we change the resolution of the screen, how does it change physically on the screen ?

I mean, screen has 1280x800 pixels i.e. thats the fixed hardware part. Now , when I change resolution from the properties, how will it change the physical property of screen ? Is it the video card which is responsible for resolution or is the screen itself ?Measuring screen resolution?
Yes a bigger monitor may be capable of running at the same resolution and yes it wont be as sharp. These numbers are the number of dots vertically and horizontally on your screen. I.E., if you are running at 1280 by 800, the rows going across have 1280 dots or pixels, the row going down has 800 dots or pixels. Multiply the 1280 by 800 and you will get the total number of pixels on your screen. As you can see, the higher the resolution, the more pixels and therefore the sharper the picture.Measuring screen resolution?
if when you change resolutions, the monitor stays completely filled it means your monitor is stretching the video to use all of the pixels.

if it doesn't than the image you are seeing is exactly the resolution you picked.

im 95% of the cases, it is the monitor that affects the resolution and only if you plug a super low end computer into a large monitor will that switch
dont really get what you mean but screen resolution is dependent on your monitor capacity... the video card just manages the output depending on your what resolution you set.

but to get best display you must set your monitor to max resolution always... because if you have a 1280x800 max resolution and you set it to 1024x768

you will get a stretched display ...
Yes, a monitor of a different size can have the same resolution, but by definition it will have a different dot or pixel pitch (size or amount of space between each pixel). For example, there's 720p HDTVs that are 19 inches, and there's 720p HDTVs that are 50 inches. Same resolution, very different size; on the larger sets you can see the fine detail more clearly, although that means you're also more likely to see individual pixels (not as realistic looking). LCD monitors have native resolutions at which you should display for best results.

By changing the resolution, the video card outputs a different resolution, different video processing and what not. If it's a CRT monitor, it will accept this signal and display it as is, and yes it will actually be doing a different task mechanically so to speak with how the electron beam is aimed and timed. If it's a LCD monitor, it will first convert that signal to its native resolution, then display it as it would any other resolution (though of course it won't look exactly perfect if it's not at its native resolution).

Why did my screen resolution randomly change?

I was using my computer which has a resolution of 1680x1050 and I turned it off. When I turned it back on again it had changed to 1024x768. I am running Vista and have gone into the display settings, but I can only set it to 800x600 or 1024x768. There are no other options. I have re-installed the NVIDIA drivers and that made no difference.

As far as I know, there have been no changes to my computer between uses. Have you got any ideas on how I could fix the problem?

Thanks! Why did my screen resolution randomly change?
Instead of just reinstalling the nvidia drivers over the old ones I would suggest using drivercleaner in safe mode and removing the nvidia drivers completely. Then running the nvidia installation again.

You should be able to change resolution in game options.

If not the file you are looking for is video.con and you can open it with notepad. Change the resolution line to 800x600@60Hz and then you should be able to adjust it in game options.

    Changing screen resloution.?

To watch some online streaming videos in a larger mode, I need to change the screen resolution to 280 by 1024 . (reccomended by the moderators)

The reason I want to change it is because some videos are way too large being cut off so I can't see a few centimeters or three.

    I have a 16 inch widescreen laptop.

With my little knowledge of changing screen resolution, the max I have is 1280 by 800 which I am using.

Can anyone tell me how to change it? ...or will it destroy my screen which the moderator said might happen?Changing screen resloution.?

Why does my computer resolution change with an HDMI cable?

When I connect my video card to my monitor it changes my computer screen and it becomes smaller. It does not fit 100% to its contents, like its not wide or tall enough, it has a black border around it almost an inch. I can go in and change my resolution settings but to make it stretch to fit the entire monitor screen I lose quality. Does anyone know how I can keep the quality of the HDMI cable and my video and still have my screen fit completely in the monitor? ThanksWhy does my computer resolution change with an HDMI cable?
Your monitor is ';mirroring'; the lower resolution of your television. What you should do is set them to ';span'; instead so they both display their own unique picture. Usually this is done by pressing F6 or F7.

Reinstall the drivers for your video card. Then you'll be able to change the resolution.

(the computer says I need video drivers to change the screen resolution...)Hey does any one knows how to install video drivers here?my screen resolution is very low.?
Yes. Find out what model computer you have, and search for it under your manufacturers support site.

This should have the current driver for your card. Secondly, you can also try finding the driver listed under the nVidia / ATI (or other video card manufacturer) site, depending on your manufacturer.Hey does any one knows how to install video drivers here?my screen resolution is very low.?
If you are using widows, go to http://microsoft.com/downloads
    First question,

do you have the driver disk. No get one first. Most of the drivers are autorun format.

insert the disk and located the driver and run setup.exe.

    ELSE.

Go my computer %26gt; rt click%26gt; manage %26gt; device manager%26gt; display adaptors%26gt; update driver %26gt; give proper path of driver location

    and click ok.

there you go. you have installed display drivers.
If you can檛 find the right drivers manually I would recommend just getting a software program that can do it for you. There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it. Perform a free driver scan at:

Also, you can get the driver from their official sites:

How do I change the native resolution on Sony Vaio Laptop?

When I try to change the screen settings to a smaller resolution everything stays the same size and there is just a black border around my screen. Right click on the desktop and click properties

    Click settings

Change font size from normal to what ever you want. How do I change the native resolution on Sony Vaio Laptop?
First, let me define a ';Native'; resolution. LCD Monitors have a discrete number of pixels, which cannot be changed. This is called the monitor's Native Resolution.

The screen 'shrinks' because if it doesn't, the image will become blurry and almost more difficult to read. The screen has to display fewer pixels on a larger pixel grid, which means one displayed pixel takes up more than one screen pixel. Your best bet is to increase the size of your icons and fonts, instead of reducing the number of pixels displayed.

To do this, right click an empty spot on your desktop, and choose properties. This will pull up your display properties window. Under the Settings tab, click Advanced. Under the general tab, change the DPI setting to a higher setting. (120 should work fine.) You'll probably need your windows CD to make this change, as it will have to reinstall all your fonts. Restart your computer and you should be good to go. If you need bigger than that, you can change to a custom size also.

    Screen Resolution Help Needed !!!?

I recently un-installed a program, turned off my computer, and went to bed. The next time I turned on my computer the resolution was way low and all the icons and windows on my screen are now giant.

THE PROBLEM: I know how to change my resolution, but I can't click the ';apply button'; because I can only see the top 3/4 of the window. I tried dragging the window all the way to the top of the screen but I could still not expose the ';apply'; button because the window is too big.

What are some alternate ways to change my screen resolution?Screen Resolution Help Needed !!!?
try using the ';Tab'; key on your keyboard to get to the ';Apply'; button. I know can't see it, but try to follow what is being selected (dotted line around text box/button) and guess when it's on the Apply button. Press Enter on your keyboard.Screen Resolution Help Needed !!!?
Go to the resolution window like you have been, right-click it's task bar icon, and select ';move';. then you can move the window using your arrow keys.
That sucks. The best thing that I can think of is trying to press the TAB key, and then when the choice is highlighted, then you press the ENTER key. Hope this helps.

    Screen Resolution Compatibility Error?

I'm using a Polaroid flat screen and a Dell Dimension 2400 with the operating system Windows XP Pro.

I was changing the screen resolution in standard mode and altered the resolution, I was just experimenting with size, but the result was that the flat screen Polaroid did not have a support for that particular size resolution. I'm in safe mode with networking, which is working fine. I tried to change the resolution in safe mode and restarted, but it continued to display the No Support image in standard mode.

My question is how can I change the resolution for standard mode while in safe mode so that I can fix the stupid error I created?

Any help would be much appreciated!Screen Resolution Compatibility Error?
Safe mode gives you limited ability to change the graphics setting. If you have another monitor try to reset the setting with that one. Good Luck

Another thing you might consider is system restore to see if you can restore your computer to a time before you made this change to the monitor's resolution.

If you have a laptop try this..

Remove the main power and the battery pack under the laptop for 5 minutes and try again.

you need either an admin to change the display setting or yourself if you are an admin.

I doubt the control panel is blocked. No controls are offered that do that. so...try in opening control panel like this:

go to start menu, click on RUN and type there control.exe

    then click on OK

if it doesnt open it will tell you why by giving you a message. make sure to write that down so we know what the message says. typically your control panel could be disabled by a computer administrator who setup that laptop. we need to get it enabled and ensure he doesn't know you have enabled it so you wont get in trouble. but i will tell you that the next time.

    all the best for now

    1.)right click on your desktop

    2.)go to properties

3.)a screen with the title named ';display properties'; with tabs at the top should show up

    4.)go to the very last tab labeled ';settings';

5.)in the lower right corner of the box there should be a screen resolution area there u can change the screen to higher or lower resolutionMy screen resolution is all messed up. How do I change it back to the way it was?
you have to go into your options during game play and change them to the size you want.

    example: 768 x 1068
You shoul go to Control Panel - Desktop and change your screen resolution there.

Hope it solves your problem ;)
Go to your desk top. Click the mouse pointer on the desk top (not an icon), using the right mouse button, select SETTINGS and change it to some of the other settings.
If all else fails, do a system restore back to a date when you know the resolution was correct. This tip works for WinME and WinXP.
Go with the first answer... some people don't pay attention to the actual question... you have to change the resolution during the game. All the options are in the menu when you hit ESC during the game.

Use the page down/page up button on your keyboard.

or move the properties window up onto your screen
Do you have a scroll wheel on a mouse plugged into your portable? If you do, hold down the Ctrl key (bottom left of keyboard), and scroll the scroll wheel on your mouse away from you one click. See what it does to the display... do it again until you are comfortable with the display. It works in this window quite well, lol, I tested it to make sure it was changing before suggesting it.

Actually, you need to click on start %26gt; Control Panel %26gt; Display %26gt; Settings %26gt; Color Quality. (Sometimes when something doesn't open right away, right click and a pop-up appears, select Open)

Generally, once you get to Color quality, there is a drop-down menu that you access by clicking on the little down arrow in the Color Quality box. Then just select the level of color you want.

Hope this helps and good luck. Now that i have my screen resolution to 1024 x 768, how do i get the color back to normal because its low?
right click on the desktop and select properties. Then go to the Settings tab and change the color quality.
right click anywhere on ur desktop, go to properties, choose settings tab, under color quality choose highest (32bit)
You cant. It depends on your graphics card and monitor combination. You'll trade color depth for higher resolution and vice-versa.

More than likely you need a new driver for your graphics card/monitor. If you don't know/can't find the model information, use this: http://www.gold-software.com/UnknownDevi
You need to update your video card drivers. If you have onboard video (no video card) then go to your motherboard manufacturer website and download their drivers. Follow directions to install. If you do have a separate video card that is not part of the board then you need to find out what make and model it is, then go to that manufacturer's website to find the latest drivers.

If you want to see what make and model your motherboard is just go to http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and click download on the top left.

question comes up, what did you download before this started. did you ok it after changing resolutions. sometimes a reboot is needed. it sounds either you did something wrong, or you have software conflict, in that something else is causing it.
If everything seems smaller, the resolution must have been increased, and more things may seem to accommodate on your screen. Try keeping the resolution at 1366x768.
It may be a graphics card problem. Try to reinstall the drivers and let's see if this solved your problem.

It's definitely because your video-card drivers are not yet installed. Since you reformatted you system, your computer is left on default to utilize the on-board graphics.

Go to ';device manager'; in Windows Control Panel =%26gt; hardware. Then click ';display adapters';. This will tell you what specific graphics card you have.

I know how to change my screen resolution and I have it on the highest option available to me (1280x800) . I was just wondering if there was anyway to make the resolution even higher. I'm running windows vista. thanks.Changing the screen resolution?
Most graphics cards nowadays, read from your monitor the available resolutions that it can tolerate. Your resolution檚 minimum and maximum is linked to both: Your graphics card檚 and your monitor檚 resolution tolerance.

For example: If you had a 15'; monitor. Your maximum resolution would be 1024 by 768, most cards will only give you this maximum for this monitor size. If you had a 19'; monitor used on the same graphics card, maximum resolution would become 1280 by 1024. That is, if your graphics card can go that high.Changing the screen resolution?
No. Not unless you buy new hardware. The maximum resolution available is determined by the resolution supported by your graphics card and monitor.
The maximum possible depends on your VGA card in the computer and of course the support highest resolution on the monitor.

Help! Real Player changes the screen resolution of my computer every time it pops up.?

Okay. I've tried and tried to figure what's wrong with it but it's making me mad now. You know how the little promotions come up on the side of your computer from Real Player on movies music and etc...? Well anytime the little thing pops up my whole screen resolution changes from 1280 X 800 pixels to 800 X 600 pixels. And every single time I have to go and change it. After I change it, if something new is clicked: like let's say I click a new song to listen to it changes for a moment to the 800 X 600 then back to the 1280 X 800. It just takes a while. But that's after I've already changed it the first time. Does it make any sense? It's faairly new lab top and I've run pretty much all the freakin' virus checks you can. How to the change The Sims 2 screen resolution?

Right at the moment it's my full computar screen, which i dunno what that is, and i dunno where to find out.

Where and how do you change it so it's a bit smaller like not full screen?

I've been looking but haven't had no luck.

What folder or whatever is it in?How to the change The Sims 2 screen resolution?
Alright, this is what I did when my graphics card was being a butthole and I had to run it in a window for a while (then found out I just had to restart the computer :P). You go to it, whether you have an icon on your desktop or it's in the Start Menu. You right click on it and go to the bottom of the list, 'Properties'. Then go to 'Target:' which should already be highlighted. Click in the box to where it isn't highlighted. At the end, there's exe';. After that, put a space, and then '-w'. The 'W' is for 'Window'. if it isn't what you wanted, you can change it back to fullscreen by changing the W to F. 'F' for fullscreen. I'm sure you guessed. :)How to the change The Sims 2 screen resolution?
you can change the resolution in the fifth button to different resolutions, but they will always be fullscreen unless and until you start running your game in windowed mode. I do, and it's much better than fullscreen, and allows for more flexibility with your computer while the game is running.

Once the game is in windowed mode, you can change how much of your screen space it uses by changing the resolution settings in the game as mentioned above.

The only thing you have to do is add a -w at the end of your shortcut. You can do this with any of the expansion packs, too.

    Detailed Instructions:

Right click on your shortcut, select properties, then select the tab that says ';shortcut.'; At the very end of the Target path (after the ';), put in a space then -w and click OK.

It should look something like ';c:/blahblah......sims2.exe'; -w

    happy simming!
Click the fifth button, with live mode being the first button, then click the picture of a computer moniter. The rest should be simple

This happens when your monitor doesnt support the resolution that you chose. To solve this problem, follow these steps:

1.Restart your computer and keep hitting F8 function key.

2.Choose safe mode from the options when displayed on the screen.

3.Now, when your dekstop is accessible, change your resolution to a lower level than you previously did and restart again. This should have solved the problem now.

Note: Try for different resolutions if that doesnt work. I would recommend 800X600 or 1024X168.When i change the screen resolution why does the screen go black ?

Your video card is not made for whatever you are trying to change it to. You'll need to get a better video card.
It's all because your screen does not accept that resolution.

Not all Monitors allow the highest resolution.

You can check the manufacturer specifications. That's behind your monitor. If it does not say it. Check the Model and Google it

    Good luck
This will happen usually if you have a LCD type screen. - Flat Panel.

You are trying to use a resolution it can not handle

CRT Television type screens - are far more tolerant to this. They may look bad but will generally work in a way LCD screens wont.

Look at the instructions that came with the screen.

To sort it out start your computer and press ';F8'; - this may vary - to get the options to start screen.

Select VGA Mode and when Windows starts right click in a vacant area of your screen and select properties then Settings.

Input the correct setting for your screen.
your computer is jealous with your beauty.....i think so.
Though it sounds simple, we often do not ask ourselves what we are doing. When we talk of resolution, we must first check what resolution is supported by your monitor.

A train cannot run at 150 kms/hr on a track which supports speeds of only upto 130 kms/hr
Its all belongs to d monitor. The black screen s for restarting the windows, You can change d bit n do ............
Well it may mean that that resolution is not supported by your monitor so in that right click on the desktop and then go to properties and then click the settings tab and then click advanced button below and then select monitor tab and then again click the ';hide modes that this monitor cannot display'; and then press ok.. now you can see only the resolutions supported by your monitor.. if that doesn't work reinstall the monitor drivers correctly... thanks.
your video adapter/card doen't support the resolution that you are trying to
Let your operating system select the best resolution for your monitor...

Formatting your computer means nothing if you don't install your chipset drivers and graphics card driver for your computer. Reinstall the drivers and whatever resolution you set will remain.

The previous answers explain the ';where'; part, but the REAL question is:

IS it an LCD monitor? If so, LCD monitors (Digital) aren't the same as CRT monitors (Analog).

Use ONLY the ';Native Resolution AND Screen Refresh Rate (60 HZ)'; as specified on the manufacturer's web site for your LCD monitor, by model number.

Find them, then, right-click on the Desktop and choose Properties (XP, Personalize, if Vista) to open the Display Properties Window. In Display Properties %26gt; Settings TAB, set to the correct ';Native'; resolution, then click on the Advanced Button, then the Monitor Tab to set the correct Screen Refresh Rate.

Also, make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card.

8.04 Linux... i cant go any higher then 800 x 600 is there anyway that i can get the higher resolutionsI was wondering how i can get a higher screen resolution to change to?
Generally, you can't get a higher resolution than the monitor and/or video board can support. If you want better resolution, you're going to have to get better hardware.

Hope that helps.I was wondering how i can get a higher screen resolution to change to?
Do you have the display driver installed and properly running. If your video card is capable it should allow for it. Good luck.

Change resolution of Dell Inspiron Mini! HELP!!?

I have a Dell Inspiron mini, and it used to pop up a window sometimes when I turned it on, where it said that my computer could have a better resolution, and asked me if I wanted to change it.

I always answered ';NO'; cause if I changed it, my screen would look bigger than usual, actually it seems like its a worst resolution and its like I can see the pixels... But yesterday I changed it but not on purpusse and now I dont know how to go back to my old resolution... PLEASE HELP!

    The actual resolution I have is: 800 X 600

I already restarted the pc and nothing happened. I've tried to change it on the Display Properties settings but it didnt work. I also went to ';Intel Graphic properties Media'; and I changed the screen resolution for 640 X 480 and it looked too big, then I changed it for 1024 X 576 and it looked smaller but still it had a very bad quality.

Please help me! (sorry for my English by the way)

I dont know if I can upload some pics or something like that so u can see how my screen looks...

    Its urgent!! HELP!

Thanks.Change resolution of Dell Inspiron Mini! HELP!!?
I would need to know what the native resolution is for your monitor. If you can give me the model number of the dell mini, I can tell you what your resolution SHOULD be. However, since it was prompting you to change to a higher resolution, you were not running at the correct (native) resolution for the monitor. I would right click on the desktop, and go to Properties (Win XP), Customize (Vista), or Display Resolution (Win 7) and move the slider from left to right, stopping at every setting until it looks right to you.

Other then that, if you get me the model number, i will tell you what the native resolution of the monitor is so that it will look the way it was designed to.

How can I change the screen resolution on Lucid Lynx?

    on top go to system/preferences/display

    ***edit

well, if your dell has a discrete graphic card, it may need its correct proprietary driver, go to

System ?Administration ?Hardware Drivers and see if it'd detect your graphic card and recommend the right driver

if it doesn't, then you might need to edit the xorg server manually, which isn't always pretty but you can read up this guide in my blog here

    http://semidevils.wordpress.com/2010/03/

    That's a general guideline if it doesn't work, you should try google something like ';dell [model goes here] resolution ubuntu';

You can also take advantage of the ubuntu forum here

    http://ubuntuforums.org/

search for the question first, if it hasn't been answered, then you should ask directly there chances are someone already come up with a custom xorg setting for that model already.

It may sound tedious, but don't give up. After all it's Linux, and only the cool uses it :)How can I change the screen resolution on Lucid Lynx?
    system/preferences/monitors
Under System - Administration find the hardware drivers selection. Click it. If you have proprietary drivers already installed/enabled then that is the best resolution you are gonna get. If not you can enable them from there. It may be because of a linux driver restriction for your GPU

Depends on what platform you're using. Try these...

    Windows XP

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power

Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.

Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a ';keyboard error'; message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.

Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

To use the System Configuration Utility method

    Close all open programs.

Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK

The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the ';/SAFEBOOT'; option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.

The computer restarts in Safe mode.

Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.

When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck ';/SAFEBOOT'; and click OK to restart your computer

Windows as part of a multiboot system

Use this method ONLY if you have multiple operating systems installed on your computer.

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power

Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.

When the Boot loader menu (list of the available operating systems) appears, use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select the version Windows what you want

Press Enter, and then immediately begin tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears.

Scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

    Windows Vista

Windows Vista is similar to Windows XP for starting in Safe Mode.

Turn the computer on or Restart the computer

Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a ';keyboard error'; message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected (the top option)

Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would. How to fix my Screen Resolution?
Since your in Safe Mode, go to your Properties, and slide your resolution all the way to the LEFT.

And then try it in normal mode again.
You need to go to safe mode and reset the screen resolution from there.

It's the only way to get your screen back to normal settings.

I suggest uninstalling the driver. Then reinstall the driver using EnvyNG.

To install EnvyNG for Kubuntu open a Terminal and submit the following command :

    sudo apt-get install envyng-qt

Once installed run the software to install your graphics driver and restart when installation is complete.

    That should fix it .

one of two things could be happening,

    1. You dont have the video card display drivers installed, In which case you have to download them and install them

    OR

    2. Your monitor doesnt support resolutions past 1024x768 and the software wont allow for going past the monitors max resolution unless 3rd party software is installed. How do i change the screen resolution to 1280x1024. right now it only goes up to 1024x768.?
If you've been through the properties menu and you can't change the resolution. Then your new screen simply can't go there!

Your screen seems to be a downgrade of the original fit and software won't fix the problem.

How to change my screen resolution back to what my Laptop should have...?

Okay, I consider myself pretty technologically knowledgeable but this one has me stumped. Maybe somebody a little smarter could help me out :P Okay, plugged my emachines E627 laptop into my big lcd tv display via vga cord. I choose to carry over the desktop, being that I was video editing. But when I reverted back to just my laptop, even though my display seems to be at the correct resolution, there seems to be a good 3'; on the right side of my screen where my mouse can get ';lost';. My laptop runs windows 7, so when I tell a window to snap to the right side of the screen, it just disappears from view. In my setting, I have it set that I am no longer extending the desktop, and that there is no other display connected. I'm stumped. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Many web pages are too large to fit on my screen, and I have to constantly scroll left to right to read them. It's really annoying. I only have two choices for screen resolution - 800 by 600 pixels and 1024 by 768 pixels. I can't seem to modify the resolution to anything else. Right now the monitor is set to 800 by 600 pixels. MY DPI is set at Normal Size (96 DPI). My monitor is a Dell E551c.

All I want is to have a normal sized web page that fits onto the screen. I don't want a tiny display that fits but is way too small, such as hitting Ctrl -. I've tried several combinations of changing screen resolution and DPI settings, but haven't found one that works. I've also looked for drivers, but it keeps saying that my drivers are up to date.

Any ideas???How do I get web pages to fit onto my screen?
You need a bigger monitor than your 15 inch dell.

It was designed for 800 by 600 and that is the whole display. Most web pages are designed with at least 800 by 600 web page size so when you add in the browser address bar, status bar etc, scrolling is needed.

To put a lot of info (a whole web page) on a small space (a dell 15 inch monitor) requires a small font or a lot of scrolling. Your eyesight cant handle small fonts and your hands dont like the scrolling so get a new larger monitor.

Get at least a 19 inch flat panel. The video tube 19 inchers are hulking beasts and not desk-friendly. After 3 minutes, you will wonder how you could have ever used that 15 inch screen. How do I get web pages to fit onto my screen?
try pressing control + or - or 0 to reset

set resolution to 1024 by 768 pixels.

press f11 to go full screen
FIRST OF ALL, set your resolution to 1024 x 768. Then, while you are viewing a web page, you can press F11 to make the page fit on your screen.

    Good Luck
Try setting it to the highest resolution and then adjust the text size if you don't want a tiny display!

Screen resolution changes when trying to play game?

I have recently installed a game (Oregon Trail 5) for my children. Every time I hit play I get an error report and my screen resolution changes (extra large). I can easily fix it, but if I try to play the game again it does the same thing. Why does it do this? How can I fix it?Screen resolution changes when trying to play game?
See the link below for troubleshooting your game Oregon Trail 5. See link below.

Also, be sure you have the most current video drivers for your computer. Depending on the video card you may need to uninstall your current driver, and then shut down the computer, turn it back and install the new drivers.

Be sure to download the latest drivers before you perform the above procedure.

mm. I'm not really sure but i think it might be a configuration of the resolution in your television's menu or it might also be that your cable box has a function to auto set the resolution for different channels, i used to have the same problem. If you have many things connected to your TV including a cable box, then maybe calling to have some one to fix it might be a good option.
The game may only display in that resolution. A lot of older games display best in a lower resolution. I'm not exactly how to fix it, but that's why it keeps on changing!

My screen resolution changed by itself and the settings I used to have disappeared..what happened?

    The problem is...

I used to have a screen resolution fine for a 17' screen, I don't remember the exact umbers but it was higher than 1024 x 768.

This morning I turned the pc on and the resolution is 1024 x 768, and if I try to change it, the previous option is disappeared and I can only chose between 800x600 and 1024x768!

Why is that? How can I restore my previous resolution?

Thank you very much..My screen resolution changed by itself and the settings I used to have disappeared..what happened?
Ur monitor driver or grahics card driver may have corrupt or changed. Look for the correct monitor driver install. reinstalling drivers solve problem. My screen resolution changed by itself and the settings I used to have disappeared..what happened?
did u change ur monitor? well if u didn't then try system restore .
As an IT technician it sounds to me like you graphics card drivers have gone corrupt, Try reinstalling your graphics card from scratch that should do the trick.
1024x768 is the setting for a crt monitor. you can try going higher in controll panel, display settings, and try changing it. I doubt you'll be happy with it. If you have a LCD monitor try setting it for 1440X900.
    update your display adapter's driver
