My screen resolution change after few monitor going to sleep while in every game!?

Whenever i play games in my PC, it have a little blips in it, and after a while the screen gone black and ';Monitor Going To Sleep'; then it come back, after a few time of that, the screen resolution of my desktop change from 1280*1024 to 1280*960!

Sometimes Steam games i have do have problems, but my Warcraft III work fine, sometimes they all ruined.

It's wierd that some day i just come on and i can play, but mostly i can't.

This started happening long ago, but it started to get more and more after i installed COD4 %26amp; DirectX.

I've tried :

- Update %26amp; Scanning Viruses

- Close all programs that uses up kernal

- Clean the inside of my pc

- Defrag Harddisk

but they doesnt help at all

Need help! please tell me how to fix this!My screen resolution change after few monitor going to sleep while in every game!?
Have you tried another monitor? If the problem stops, then it's probably that which is broken.

Alternatively, it could be that the resolution in your games are set wrong. Make sure that both game and desktop resolutions are set at the native for your monitor. This is important to check, as LCD's hate being set at a strange resolution.

After that, assuming you aren't using onboard graphics, you should update your graphics card drivers. Do this by going to Add/Remove Programs, and uninstalling the ATi drivers there. Then go to their website, and download the latest drivers.

Your graphics card could also be broken, but lets leave that for now, actually...

Only other thing I can think of is power settings. Go into Display Properties %26gt; Screen Saver Tab %26gt; Power, and set all menus to ';Never';, and ensure Hibernation is switched off.

Hope that helps! My screen resolution change after few monitor going to sleep while in every game!?
Uhm... try updating your video card...

(you didn't mention your graphics card.)

or...

you could try updating your video card's driver...
It may be the game, or your drivers!

Go onto the page of your graphics card manufacturer, and download the latest driver for the graphics card. Also, update all the drivers / hardware on Windows Update.

If that doesn't work, go into the display setting of the game, changing the resolution, and hopefully it will work!

I turned it off hoping it would go back to normal but am now left with a blank black screen when it's on and nothing else. Any ideas on what i an do?How do you fix the screen resolution?

Screen resolution changed and won't change back.. 10 POINTS IF YOU CAN HELP.?

So here's the deal. My computer was acting funky when I tried to boot up a video editing program. Program wasn't responding for 15 minutes straight so I unplugged the computer from the power unit it was on (did not reformat the system because all my stuff is still there.) BIG MISTAKE. I certainly will NOT be doing that again. Because when I restarted the system, the screen resolution was sitting at 640 something x 800 something and when I went into Control Panel to modify it, it wouldn't change. I also tried System Restore. Didn't do anything.

My computer's OS is Windows XP Professional.

Computer make is Dell.

I cannot reinstall the OS. That is not an option.

Also, calling a Tech Support person isn't an option, so please don't bother with those kinds of answers if you intend to post.

How can I fix this?

I know that fixing the problem involves graphics drivers and stuff. But everytime I look it up, the explanations leave me no where and are too complicating for me, plus, sometimes it seems like when someone's instructions tell me to go to My Computer and do something, it doesn't appear the way they describe so I can't do anything.

Can anyone actually shed some light on this? I'm totally lost! ):Screen resolution changed and won't change back.. 10 POINTS IF YOU CAN HELP.?
If you purchased your computer from DELL..it should have a Resource Disk--that is where the Graphics Driver is..

Do Not..re-install the CHIPSET driver..it can only be intalled after the OS..has been re-installed//a Clean re-install is the OS..and its ChipSet Driver..//

===

Also..look in the Control Panel at your Video Settings--look at your REFESH RATE..set it @60-Hz/look in Monitor(properties)..

===

If you go to websites that keep asking that you download their Media Player--you might want to stop doing that..that's why your REFESH RATE is changing..

===

Basically..if your having a resolution issue/

Just re-install the graphics driver..check your resolution settings..

Check the REFESH RATE..mine runs at 60-Hz/

===

If you were installing software--it must be compatible--there's really no way to make software run on a machine--its not meant for..

Safe Mode Bootup ?XP, Vista, Win7

=============

Try this, its easy and will not harm anything

Slowly tap the F8 key while the computer is powering up

Just after the screen goes blank, the F8 key will point the computer to a menu where safe mode can be selected.

Note if you mistakenly tap F8 key again, it will continue through to normal boot, so power down and try again.

Scroll and select Last known good configuration.

This is stronger than doing a system restore in normal mode.

Wait till the boot has finished before clicking anything.

(System restore is the first line of restoration.

The second line is last known good configuration.

The third line is system restore in safe mode.

The fourth line is repair from your disk recovery console.

The fifth line is a delete partition with clean install).

After doing last known good restore and if you need to adjust the resolution follow this:

XP - update video or sound driver

-------------------------------------

in XP do this

click start %26gt;help and support %26gt;type in processor in the search

in the results look for find hardware and in there your video or sound card is displayed

highlite some of the video or sound card text of the name and type and press control +c to copy it

paste it in google and add driver

in the results pick one that looks like the manufacturer and download the latest driver

if its an exe file just double click it to install.

if its a driver file then right click my computer icon %26gt;manage %26gt;device manager.

For video expand display adapter %26gt;right click your video card %26gt;update driver %26gt;point wizard to your file.

for sound expand sound %26gt; right click the audio controller %26gt;update driver %26gt;point wizard to your file.

reboot.

for video

Right Click the empty space on the desktop%26gt; properties%26gt; settings. Choose a resolution where the little screen in the window is the same shape as your screen.

Some graphics cards overide windows resolution settings. You can tell this is the case because the settings will not change from windows settings. If so hover the mouse over the icons in the sys tray near the clock. One of the icons will be the graphics card. Right click it and follow your nose to sniff out how to alter the resolution.
*facepalm*

Firstly, never unplug the computer, never do a system restore.

System restore is very buggy and doesn't always fix what you intend it to work.

Secondly, I hate you for still having XP professional. I'm on W7. It's terrible.

Now to fix your problem.

1: Go to your desktop

2: Right Click on the Desktop

3: Click on properties

4: Go to the screen resolution tab near the top of the window

5: Change the screen size from 800x600 to something ideal like 1024x768

6: Hit Apply and OK

If your screen flickers once or twice, then stays at 800x600 ... then chances are you have an issue with your hardware. Seeing as you pulled out your power supply, opening up your computer and changing components isn't an option.

The only relatively safe thing I can advise you to do next is update your drivers.

1: Click the start menu

2: Go to control panel

3: Under the View tab, change your view to classic start menu. The blue bar on the left lets you do this too if I remember correctly.

4: Open Device Manager

5: Go to Display Adapters, and expand it until you see what the adapter is.

6: Right click on it, click Properties.

If it's working, that's good. Otherwise, I think there should be a troubleshooting option or some way to repair it. If not, I'm not sure what else you can do.

Note - Safe mode does NOT work on fixing this, this is on Windows XP. The Login and main screens after that are all black with a red box, so I cannot see ANYTHING, so please do not say 'use safe mode' or go to properties because I can't see what's on my screen and safe mood doesn't work.Changing screen resolution from DOS?
SAFE mode and Normal mode use different graphics drivers thus different resolutions. SAFE mode uses the generic MS VGA driver that just displays low resolution during login. So usually, if you messed display settings in Normal mode, you should still be able to open SAFE mode and make adjustments or reinstall the graphics driver.

If SAFE mode won't even open, your OS is quite messed up and probably needs repair. Only after a repair and driver reinstallation would you be able to make the adjustments.

It sounds like it it is a drivers issue with your video card. You would have to update them for it to work
You may need to install/update your video drivers first.
Control Panel%26gt;display%26gt; setting then you can change it to what you need by simply dragging the arrow to your desired resolution.

    Good luck
What operating system are you using? Since you did not specify, I will use Windows XP as an example, but Windows 98, ME, 2000 and Vista should be similar. Before you start changing the screen resolution, ask and answer, the following

    questions:

    1. Does my video adapter support the 1600x1200 resolution and do I have the proper drivers installed?

    2. Does my display monitor support 1600x1200 resolution and do I have the proper drivers installed?

Since you are seeing the default monitor as your monitor type, you will need to load at least the monitor driver. You need to get these from the manufacturer's website or the disk provided with the computer and monitor.

After you have loaded the correct drivers for the video adapter and the monitor, go to your display properties page, click on the settings tab. Click on the advanced button. Click on the Monitor tab. You should see your monitor displayed as the monitor type. If not, try to get updated monitor drivers to the latest version or you may have installed the wrong monitor driver.

If you see your monitor displayed as the monitor type, click on the adapter tab at the top. Click on the ';List all modes...'; button. Verify that the 1600x1200 display mode is shown in the ';List of valid modes'; window. If not, and you have the correct video adapter drivers installed, your video adapter probably does not support 1600x1200 resolution.

If you have more information on your computrer, I could probably help you better.

How do I Stop Automatically Changing Screen Resolutions?

I have a Dell 1905FP monitor that needs a screen resolution of 1280 X 1024, but wants to go back to a 1024 X 768, which causes a flickering on and off. How to change screen size?

My laptop screen picture does not fill the whole screen like it used to, i tried changing the screen resolution but it only allows the image to get smaller and not bigger. Anyway other way to increase the screen size? How to change screen size?
If it has been fairly recently that your computer made these unwanted changes to the screen size, you can try to do a System Restore to an Earlier Date to see if that will help at all. Go to Start Menu, then Control Panel, then to System Restore and then find an earlier date to restart your computer to. You won't lose any stored data, but the computer should just restore the settings for that date, so that if your screen was whole screen, it will restore itself.

You can also try to click and drag the frame of the application you are trying to do. Click on the top corner of the frame. You will see a diagonal arrow. Move it to the top edge of the screen. Then, once in place, click on Window on your toolbar and then select the Remember Size and Position option and this will also get your computer to change. (This is probably the easier of the two options I have listed here).

Why can't i change the screen resolution on my HP compaq mini 110 notebook?

I have tried to change it in the display settings tab and the slider is right down to the left, but it just won't move when i try to move it to the right. I have been through my 'troubleshooter' and checked the drivers etc and changed the 'hardware acceleration' to 'none' but nothing has made any difference.

The reason why I'm trying to do this is that I'm doing an online ECDL course and coursework opens in a window that is too small for its contents but it can't be scrolled down and no matter how big i stretch the window the bottom part soesn't display so I can't do my work unless i fix this problem. I'm told changing the resolution will fix it, but if anyone has any other advice as to how to sort the problem I'd be very grateful! thank you.Why can't i change the screen resolution on my HP compaq mini 110 notebook?
First, by choosing ';none'; as your Hardware Acceleration you are LIMITING the capabilities of your display. Slide that back all the way to the right again.

Second, since you are using a Mini, or a Netbook, one of the things you have to adjust to is that you will NEVER have a large screen resolution. One of the downsides to those cute, ultra-portable devices is that they do have smaller screens and more limited screen resolutions.

You SHOULD have gotten a regular laptop, if you wanted the most compatibility possible. So yes, you were told that changing the resolution would help, but that is a generic solution. Your Netbook does not have the capabilities of expanding to a larger resolution. From Compaq.com...

';The Compaq Mini isn't an alternative to a laptop. It's designed to be a highly mobile companion to either your laptop or desktop PC.'; http://www.compaq.com/country/products/m

The Maximum resolution possible on that netbook is 1024 x 576.

end of lineWhy can't i change the screen resolution on my HP compaq mini 110 notebook?
    try setting your Hardware accelerator to a setting other than ';none';

Sometimes you can only go so far with screen resolution till you hit the maximum that it's capable of going to.
First go to the Start Menu, Go to Appearance and Personalization, then click Adjust Screen Resolution which be under the Personalization category.

Well first off all make sure you have the admin rights to change your screen resolution on the computer. Also you might not have the correct video card drivers installed or your screen doesn't support the resolution that you are trying to set it to.Windows 7 screen resolution won't change?
Your video card, if you have one, has to be able to handle higher resolutions, and also, your monitor.

It could be that 800 x 600 is as high as it will go.

If you have a video card installed, check to see what is the maximum resolution it will handle. Or maybe you just need to install and update your video drivers to work with Win 7
You need to install your graphics card drivers and possibly one for your screen depending on what one you have. I can guide you through this ask me here http://www.pchelphq.com

Some games, particularly older ones, simply dont support widescreen... there was no reason for them to do so at the time they were developed. Sometimes you can edit the games config file to force a widescreen resolution, but more often than not, this causes problems of its own such as graphic anonolies, or the game simply wont start.

Which key/s on my laptop that can be pressed to automatically make the screen resolution change?

My cat keeps walking over my laptop and seems to do it everytime! How?!/?!Which key/s on my laptop that can be pressed to automatically make the screen resolution change?
Usually Ctrl+Alt+ (some key on the other side of the keyboard)

I support a few models of Fujitsu that have an ATI video card. They have a setting that Ctrl+Alt+(Up, Down, Left or Right) will rotate the display 90 degrees at a time, and the cats have no problem doing this.

If you check your display settings, Start...Settings...Display...

Click the Settings tab. You should have an Advanced button near the bottom, press that.

That should bring up the settings for your video card.

Flip through those tabs (if there is more than one) and you should find one that has a list of HotKey combinations. You should be able to see which ones are available, and maybe even turn off the hotkeys.

    Good luck...

How to change monitor screen resolution in samsung 932nw?

hi i bought new 19'; lcd monitor but the screen pixel is 1024 by 768 max, i have update it driver from window update, the problem is the monitor need 1440 by 900 , how can i make this resolution, do i need to change my graphic card or my monitor doesnt support itHow to change monitor screen resolution in samsung 932nw?
I have a 17 inch LCD screen. It can support up to 1024 x 768 resolution, and my nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Graphics card supports 1024 x 768 resolution at max.

It might be your monitor is similar to what I am using, besides the monitor brand and the video card. But, follow these EZ steps below:

    - Right click on desktop and click ';Proporties';.

    - Click on the ';Settings'; tab.

    - Adjust the resolution to 1024 x 768. (Supported by most monitors and video cards)

-Click the ';Apply'; Button and then click the ';OK'; button.

That should work. If this info didn't work try Microsofts Homepage

How do i change the screen resolution on a Sharp Aquos LC37D43U to work with xbox 360?

I cant seem to find where on the television or on the xbox 360 the correct place where i can change the resolution. The xbox is currently playing on 480p (i saw that number flash on the screen once), but the tv supports 720p/1080i. How do i change the resolution so i can get the games in high definition? As a point of reference, i do not have the hdmi connector (not supported by my xbox 360, and all the component cables are connected correctly). I am also using the xbox 360 as my dvd player, so i'm guessing the resolution will improve the quality of those as well.

Also, my standard analog cable (no digital or HD box) is producing a poor picture on the TV. Is this due to the resolution or just due to the poor signal? Can anything be done to make it clearer (besides the obvious of buying a digital or HD box)?

Thanks for your help. How do i change the screen resolution on a Sharp Aquos LC37D43U to work with xbox 360?
the first answer is right about the resolution. next this is how you change the resolution of the 360. the main screen on the 360 is the ';dashboard'; if this does not come up at first. then press the x-box logo button in the middle top of the controller. a side bar will apear. press the yellow ';y'; button. this will bring you to the dashboard. press left or right till you get to the settings menu. then go to display. youcan change the resolutionoutput to 720p or 1080i. id pick 720p since thats the native resolution of your tv. (youcan try both if you like but you probably wont notice any difference). and thats it you just changed your output resolution to hd. this will only affect your 360 games. any dvd will still be output in 480p. also your cable box produces poor picture because lcds as a whole tend to make regular tv broadcasts (480i) look bad. what you can try is to use another output from the cable box. if you are using the regular cable wire (coax) then try using a composite output , thats the yellow, red and white, rca cables. like the ones dvd players use. this is if your cable box has those outputs. this has a little better quality then the regular cable wire. also if youcable box has a s-video output use that insead of the yellow wire. you still use the red and white for sound. but the s-video had the better picture over the yellow. so unless you want to get a hd box and hd subscription, then s-video is the best connection. then the yellow rca wire, then the regular cable wire (coax). try it out. good luck. How do i change the screen resolution on a Sharp Aquos LC37D43U to work with xbox 360?
The screen resolution is not controlled by the TV but by the equipment hooked up to it. You saw the 480p flash on the screen which means your xbox is outputting 480p. For you to get higher resolution, the Xbox must configured to output 720p/1080i. As for how that would be done, I don't have an xbox so I can't advise you on that part. However I do have an upconverting DVD player and I had to set it up to output the 720p signal in order for my HDTV to display in 720p so I believe you need to do the same for your Xbox.

As for analog cable producing a poor picture, part of it is due to the standard tv signal being 480i. To get the best possible picture, use the higest quality output that your cable box has. Quality from highest to lowest, HDMI, component, s-video and composite.

    I hope this helps you.

Thanks for your help. How do i change the screen resolution on a Sharp Aquos LC37D43U to work with xbox 360?
First of all you do not have to change anything on your TV. You have to do it from your Xbox 360 Dashboard. First, go to the last ';blade'; which is labelled, System. From there, go to Console Settings. Then go to Display, and from there just change the resolution to 1080i. Remeber that you have to move the switch on your Component cable from TV to HDTV.

As for the poor picture quality, if you dont have Cable or Satellite, then the problem is due to poor signal. If you do have cable or satellite then i suggest checking the resolution settings from your TV or just getting better analog cables (I used to have the same problem so I bought analog cables of better quality). Well I hope this helps. How do i change the screen resolution on a Sharp Aquos LC37D43U to work with xbox 360?
Go to the System Blade and select Console Settings:

    Display

Change your display output settings from this screen. Display settings include screen resolution and screen dimension (or aspect ratio, either standard or widescreen).

For high-definition viewing you'll need a high-definition TV or monitor, as well as the Xbox 360 HDMI Cable, the Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable, or the Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable. For more information, see Connect to TV or HDTV.

    * HDTV Settings: Choose between 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p output resolution, depending on the native resolution of your TV or monitor. The default setting is 480p (enhanced definition, or EDTV).

In some cases you can select an ';Optimal Resolution'; button, which appears only when Xbox supports the native resolution of the TV or monitor and automatically applies the best setting.

    If you are using VGA or DVI, you must choose from among the following output resolutions: 640 x 480, 848 x 480, 1204 x 720, 1280 x 720, 1280 x 768, 1280 x 1024, 1360 x 768, and 1920 x 1080.

How can I change my screen resolution from standard (4:3 based) to widescreen (16:9 based)?

I just got a new monitor for my computer, but have encountered a problem that makes the appearance quite stretched and blurry: The actual computer isn't exactly new (it's a few years old; maybe 3-4 years) and so it's set for a standard moniter setting; a 4:3 ratio. The new moniter however, is brand new, and it's widescreen; so it's optimized for a 16:9 ratio.

When I try to change the screen resolution (windows XP), I go to the control panel %26gt; display %26gt; settings %26gt; and in the settings tab there is a bar i can drag that changes the resolution. However, this bar only allows me to select resolutions that are 4:3 based.

So, is there any way that I can get to a custom resolution setter that allows me to set the exact resolution myself? (like something that I can type the exact numbers into?)How can I change my screen resolution from standard (4:3 based) to widescreen (16:9 based)?
I go to the control panel

I am no wiz at this but in the control panel try Add Hardware and hopefully this Installation Wizard will allow you to enter the Model Information. The first screen actually asks for an installation disc. If no disc perhaps Next screen may get you started on what is involved in defining the new component. Once your computer knows what it has, hopefully the correct software will be called so the correct specifications set automatically the way we like it.

In Vista, screen resolution change on a particular program startup?

How do I change this so that it does not change resolution? I can't find a particular place in the program properties, etc. to change it! It's driving me batty... Thanks in advance...In Vista, screen resolution change on a particular program startup?
Some programs change the resolution to run properly. This is especially true of some older games, TV Tuners, Virtual-PC, and a few others. If it's a good program, it should put thengs back how they were when you close it.

Vista will also restrict the resolution, visual-themes (like disabling Vista Aero), and other things if it detects an known compatibility issue with whatever is running. I have this with RealPlayer...it should go back within a few minutes of closing the program though.

Lastley, programs that display on external monitors usually change (stretch/shrink) the LCD resolution to make it look correct on the external display...again, it should be put automatically back to normal when the program finishes or the external screen is unplugged. In Vista, screen resolution change on a particular program startup?
Resolution change happens because the program needs a specific res to run. If it doesn't use that res, bad things happen, and the program might not start. Just ignore it, and keep your eyes in the program. It should automatically switch back to normal after being closed
    What program is it??

No program should have the right to change your rez.

How to Change the Screen Resolution on a recently Re-booted Windows Xp Home Edition?

The title essentially says it all. Recently i had to Re-boot my computer and start fresh due to some vicious malware. Before, i was able to change the resolution from 1024x768 all the way to 600x480 with all color quality options available. Now, the slider for screen resolution is not present and only has one setting which is 640X480 with 16bit. So i looked this up on google and found that if i were to go through Advanced%26gt;Adapter%26gt;List All Modes i could manually change it there. However, when i do so (using 800x600 and the default refresh mode) i end up with only 8bits on the color quality and that looks like total ****. So how can I make the slider present or change my resolution with better color quality, more than 8?How to Change the Screen Resolution on a recently Re-booted Windows Xp Home Edition?

How do i change the screen resolution when the button won't won't fit on the screen!!! HELP ME PLEASE?

today i made the stupid mistake of putting a old game in made for 95/98 windows to my windows vista laptop...i was amazed when it played and it was funny until i turned the game off and saw that my laptop had changed the screen resolution to fit game which is a pixelated zoomed in version of my desktop with only a few huge buttons visible!

i have restored my laptop back a few days so the game is gone but it still has this crappy resolution problem, and tests windows runs to fix problems on the laptop don't work because it doesn't see anything wrong, cause technically the computer works fine

it suggests changing the resolution when i log on but when i get to that part on the control panel i can't get the button on the screen to change it, rendered me stuck.

i've even tired putting another (current) game in the hope it would change it back, the game plays fine but when you quit, the strange zoomed in pixelated desktop is back :(

i really don't want to have to put it back to factory settings for such a stupid thing, please if someone can help me fix this

i am currently on safe mode, but i can't do much on it as you knowHow do i change the screen resolution when the button won't won't fit on the screen!!! HELP ME PLEASE?
When you can't view windows, buttons etc. you can use the keyboard to make changes and move the window around. The topmost window can be moved using the Alt - space bar (press Alt key and then press space bar key once while Alt key is still pressed down, and then release both simultaneously). You will get an drop down menu, where move is the second option (or the M key on the keyboard). Then use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the window around. When you have the required button or control visible (in the screen area), you can press Enter key to position the window there.

Sometimes, the window reverts back to it's original position when you press enter, so you have to remember the location of the cursor / highlighted button and then press TAB key repeatedly till you are on the correct button/ window control. e.g. one TAB key press moves you one button or control forward, while Shift - TAB moves you backwards.

Enter key works similar to OK while the ESC key is like Cancel.

Try it with a visible window so that you are comfortable with keys when something like this happens.

You could do everything by keyboard, like I had to do once for a problem kinda like this

whenever you're in a window, pressing tab will scroll through all the possible inputs. Keep pressing tab until you get to what you want to change. Yes, it will go off-screen. The left and right arrow keys will adjust sliders once you highlight them with the tab key. Then when you're done, press enter (equivalent of clicking ok) If you have another similar comp that works fine, i suggest doing all actions simultaneously on both comps so you can tell what you're doing.

the settings can NOT or, should NOT, go above your monitor's native resolution and anyway, it all boils down to what graphics card you have installed!
The choices you get will be reliant upon the graphics card you have and the software that goes with it.
the resolution choices shown in the control panel are the final. u cant get additional options.

How do I change the screen resolution on a dell 2607 lcd monitor without seeing the screen?

I have a dell 26 n lcd tv/monitor hooked up to my dell computer...was messing around and changed the screen resolution in windows (vista). Now my monitor has this bouncing msg that says ';out of range can't display this video mode. Change computer display input to 1360x768 at 60hz';. but it won't let me because I can't see anything. Have restarted, F8 and safe mode, but it only brings up the welcome screen for maybe 1 second before returning to the blank screen with the same ';out or range...'; message.

Have also tried hooking up a different monitor (one I'm using now) changing the resolution then hooking up the original monitor but it doesn't work, still goes back to same ';out of range...'; message.

Have tried using the remote to the tv to change the size...doesn't work...have tried to change the factory settings but still doesn't work.

If you used F8 to boot into VGA mode there should be NO issue at that point. It should boot into a VERY crappy looking low resolution. If you're still experiencing some sort of issue then you're in a bit of trouble. The only options I can think of is remote control the computer from another PC or take it to a shop that has access to higher end monitors and see if they can't just make the adjustment for you.

your screen will change resolution during play when your desktop resolution is not the same as your game resolution. the small square that you are seeing can be either be caused by your outdated video card, the incompatibility of the game to your graphics card or the incompatibility of your monitor to you graphics card. what i mean by the latter is that your monitor may not support uncommon or very high resolutions used by the game like for example 1768 x 1024. to solve this, adjust the settings of the game you are playing until it fits your graphics card and monitor.

if you cant get as high a resolution as you want, its either because your monitor cannot handle a higher resolution or your graphics card cant. im saying that if you cant get a higher resolution, it's because your hardware isn't powerful enough
If you have an LCD monitor, you should make sure you have all your drivers installed correctly, and set your monitor to it's native resolution, which is probably around 1440x900, give or take. You can change it either with the driver utility, or through the Display utility in the Control Panel. (I've got a monitor of similar size, widescreen though, and that is the resolution on the sticker, and in the driver, that it lists as the native resolution.)

use system restore, rollback to the date before your student had done something on your computer, go to start, all programs, accesssories, system tools, system restore. If it works, you still need to go to do window update from microsoft site.

    Solution 2

I suggest a fresh install of Yahoo! Messenger. First, a fresh install will ensure you have the latest build of Yahoo! Messenger. Also, a reinstall will write over any Messenger files that may have become corrupt and causing this resolution issue. There are two versions of Yahoo! Messenger available. Yahoo! just launched Yahoo! Messenger version 8.0, which includes plug-ins and integration of Yahoo! 360 integration. For version 8, just go to http://messenger.yahoo.com, click on the 楪et it Now?button, and follow the installation process. If you are not ready for the beta, just click on the 楪et version 7.5?link located directly under the 楪et it Now?button to get the current version, version 7.5.When I log in the screen resolution changes to low bit how do fix it so it will not change the screen at all?
The first thing to try is to re-install Yahoo! Messenger.

Click the Start menu, Control Panels and open Add/Remove Programs. Remove Yahoo! Messenger, then install a fresh copy of the most recent version from http://messenger.yahoo.com

If that doesn't work, try clicking ';Change Skin...'; in the Messenger menu and choose ';Classic';.

Finally if all else fails, you could go back to and older version of Messenger:

Ive got a laptop and am trying to set the resolution to 800x600, whenever i do change it to this, it only fills a portion of the screen in the center, i want it so it fills the whole screen whilst keeping it on 800x600 format so all the words are enlarged as i have poor eye sight

It used to work perfectly, but once i changed it to 1240x800 or something, then when i changed back it only filled the center of the screen..

Please help me :(How to change laptop screen format/resolution?

you said you installed vista on it? i assume its a clean version, so you'll need to also install the drivers for your graphics first, then change it in the properties. How can i change my screens resolution?
    Right click your desktop%26gt;properties%26gt;settings.
If the display drivers are ok you can change the resolution by right clicking and from the display settings in Vista
The first answer is right on the money.
