How do I Stop Automatically Changing Screen Resolutions?

I have a Dell 1905FP monitor that needs a screen resolution of 1280 X 1024, but wants to go back to a 1024 X 768, which causes a flickering on and off. I have went into the control panel settings and re-set it, re-started it, everything I can think of, and it still will automatically re-set itself to 1024 X 768. How do I lock it into 1280 X 1024?How do I Stop Automatically Changing Screen Resolutions?
