Why cant i change my screen resolution?

i got it on 800 by 600 pixel! but i want it on smaller! but every time i move the arrow button under the screen resolution it go back to 800 by 600! no matter wat i do it keep going to that 800 by 600? wat should i do? can i fix it?if so how?

That implies that either your monitor, video board or drivers can't support anything but 800 x 600. Have you recently done a reinstall of the operating system? If so, the monitor may be running with general-purpose, one-size-fits-all drivers. Go to the video board manufacturer's site and see if there are any drivers for your board.
