How can I change the screen resolution on Lucid Lynx?

all my windows are big, look ok but big. I'm totally new to Ubuntu, can someone help me?How can I change the screen resolution on Lucid Lynx?
on top go to system/preferences/display

***edit

well, if your dell has a discrete graphic card, it may need its correct proprietary driver, go to

System ?Administration ?Hardware Drivers and see if it'd detect your graphic card and recommend the right driver

if it doesn't, then you might need to edit the xorg server manually, which isn't always pretty but you can read up this guide in my blog here

That's a general guideline if it doesn't work, you should try google something like ';dell [model goes here] resolution ubuntu';

You can also take advantage of the ubuntu forum here

http://ubuntuforums.org/

search for the question first, if it hasn't been answered, then you should ask directly there chances are someone already come up with a custom xorg setting for that model already.

It may sound tedious, but don't give up. After all it's Linux, and only the cool uses it :)How can I change the screen resolution on Lucid Lynx?
system/preferences/monitors
Under System - Administration find the hardware drivers selection. Click it. If you have proprietary drivers already installed/enabled then that is the best resolution you are gonna get. If not you can enable them from there. It may be because of a linux driver restriction for your GPU
