How do i change the screen resolution to 1280x1024. right now it only goes up to 1024x768.?

I had my screen replaced because it was cracked (replaced through my school) and now the resolution doesnt go past 1024x768. I know ive had it lower, and it wont go any lower through the properties menu. please use easy words, im not a high tech person, but i am good at navigating through my computer. thanks in advanceHow do i change the screen resolution to 1280x1024. right now it only goes up to 1024x768.?
one of two things could be happening,



1. You dont have the video card display drivers installed, In which case you have to download them and install them



OR

2. Your monitor doesnt support resolutions past 1024x768 and the software wont allow for going past the monitors max resolution unless 3rd party software is installed.How do i change the screen resolution to 1280x1024. right now it only goes up to 1024x768.?
If you've been through the properties menu and you can't change the resolution. Then your new screen simply can't go there!



Your screen seems to be a downgrade of the original fit and software won't fix the problem.
