This happens when your monitor doesnt support the resolution that you chose. To solve this problem, follow these steps:

1.Restart your computer and keep hitting F8 function key.

2.Choose safe mode from the options when displayed on the screen.

3.Now, when your dekstop is accessible, change your resolution to a lower level than you previously did and restart again. This should have solved the problem now.

Note: Try for different resolutions if that doesnt work. I would recommend 800X600 or 1024X168.When i change the screen resolution why does the screen go black ?

Your video card is not made for whatever you are trying to change it to. You'll need to get a better video card.
It's all because your screen does not accept that resolution.

Not all Monitors allow the highest resolution.

You can check the manufacturer specifications. That's behind your monitor. If it does not say it. Check the Model and Google it

Good luck
This will happen usually if you have a LCD type screen. - Flat Panel.

You are trying to use a resolution it can not handle

CRT Television type screens - are far more tolerant to this. They may look bad but will generally work in a way LCD screens wont.

Look at the instructions that came with the screen.

To sort it out start your computer and press ';F8'; - this may vary - to get the options to start screen.

Select VGA Mode and when Windows starts right click in a vacant area of your screen and select properties then Settings.

Input the correct setting for your screen.
your computer is jealous with your beauty.....i think so.
Though it sounds simple, we often do not ask ourselves what we are doing. When we talk of resolution, we must first check what resolution is supported by your monitor.

A train cannot run at 150 kms/hr on a track which supports speeds of only upto 130 kms/hr
Its all belongs to d monitor. The black screen s for restarting the windows, You can change d bit n do ............
Well it may mean that that resolution is not supported by your monitor so in that right click on the desktop and then go to properties and then click the settings tab and then click advanced button below and then select monitor tab and then again click the ';hide modes that this monitor cannot display'; and then press ok.. now you can see only the resolutions supported by your monitor.. if that doesn't work reinstall the monitor drivers correctly... thanks.
your video adapter/card doen't support the resolution that you are trying to
Let your operating system select the best resolution for your monitor...
